Practicing stillness at the turning of the year

Hey Rebel Reader !

Over the past year, I’ve been deep in training with Awake in the Wild.

It’s been a slower, quieter season of learning, reflection, shedding and deepening my practice.

Less about doing more, and more about unlearning the habits of pushing, effecting and trying to be "enough" for everyone but myself.

My mindfulness practice has always mattered to me, but this year, something shifted as my relationship with nature deepened.

Being outside regularly. Letting the weather, light, and seasons shape the practice. Listening instead of striving. Working with resistance...nature holds so much wisdom.

Nature doesn’t rush the cycle. It doesn’t skip the dark parts.
And it doesn’t confuse stillness with stagnation.

That way of moving has changed how I experience transition in my own life.

I notice thresholds more clearly now. The moments when something is ending. They require care and attention.

Moments when something is quietly beginning do too.

The Winter Solstice has become one of those anchors for me with it's longest night and the unmistakable turn toward more light.

Each day after, the light returns a little more. Enough to remind me that reflection and forward movement are not opposites.

They belong together.

This way of practicing has opened up a different relationship to cycles. In work. In identity. In relationships. In how I relate to effort, rest, and change.

Less forcing. More attunement.

That shift has quietly shaped everything I’m building now.

It’s become the foundation of my Quiet Rebellion 1:1 coaching work, the through-line for the Wild Rebellion retreats I’m beginning to offer, and the spirit behind the Rebellion Collective community I’ll be opening in January.

Not as a philosophy or theory, but as a living practice. Learning to move with cycles instead of against them. To notice thresholds as they arise. To trust that clarity and momentum don’t come from constant effort, but from right timing and enough presence.

On December 21st, I’ll be hosting a live Awake in the Wild gathering to mark the Winter Solstice.

It’s a simple space to pause and practice presence with the season as it is. To honor what’s resting, and to notice what’s beginning to stir as the light returns.

If this resonates, you’re welcome to join us.

Hey Rebel Reader ! It's been a minute. Life has been full. This is the first new and improved Dispatches From The Rebellion.I've been hard at work revising, updating and clarifying the principles of rebellion, codifying it into actionable frameworks and practices you can use immediately, while also doing a complete overhaul on my positioning, branding and marketing. If you haven't checked out my website recently, take a spin over at rebellioncollective.com to get an idea of where things are...

Hey Rebel Reader ! Something has shifted for me over the last few weeks. I’ve been paying closer attention to where my money goes, where my attention goes, and what systems quietly depend on both. And I’ve decided to participate less. Less subscribing. Less buying. Less feeding the parts of the digital economy that extract more than they return. The Matrix 1999. Documentary of fiction? I wrote a longer piece about this on Substack. It traces a lineage of non-participation. Unplugging from the...

Hey Rebel Reader ! I need to be honest with you. I've been trying to figure out how to show up in this moment. How do I write about capacity and alignment while watching families get torn apart? How do I talk about career transitions while democracy is crumbling? It's felt obscene. Like I'm supposed to pretend the world isn't on fire. But going silent doesn't feel right either. So I wrote something. I'm trying to work through this in real time and maybe you are too. [Bearing Witness As A Form...
